Primary school transition

All parents of pupils in Year 6 will have received a booklet produced by Powys County Council called “Information for Parents” which gives information regarding secondary schools for the whole of Powys.  This booklet contains the form that can ensure that your child will have a place in the High School of your choice. The form should be returned to the Headteacher of your primary school as soon as possible.

Primary / Transitional Links and the Music Department
Over the years the Music Department has established very strong links with the feeder primary schools.  At the end of the summer term, the department hosts an Orchestral Day where musicians join the department to work with our pupils, which culminates with a concert at the end of the day. The day comprises of pupils working in their respective instrumental groups (Brass, Woodwind or Strings) and also joining together for the latter half of the day. The Orchestral Day ends with a very short concert in the school’s Bwyty where the pieces that have been learnt are performed to parents / carers / teachers. This concert is open for anybody to attend and there is no charge for entry. The Orchestral Day is an excellent opportunity for pupils to meet and work with the instrumental teachers, become familiar with the Music Department and the High School in general, as well as work with pupils from Years 7-13.

The Art and Music departments have for several years taken part in a transitional project where all pupils from Year 6 come to the department and experience Music/Art lessons through the promotion of ICT.  It is an excellent opportunity for them to meet the staff of both departments and experience what lessons will be like when they join us at the High School.
