In mixed ability tutor groups

In mixed ability groups across half the year with smaller teaching groups for those with weaknesses in Literacy.

Set across the year group according to ability.

Assessment pattern

During the year, pupils compile a folder containing a variety of Reading and Writing assignments which are levelled. Two of the tasks are completed under supervision and timed conditions. Records of Speaking and Listening activities are also held in the folder. An end-of-year level is then awarded.

During the year, pupils compile a folder containing two Reading and two Writing tasks as well as records for two Speaking and Listening activities. One of the reading tasks as well as one of the Writing tasks will be completed in timed, test conditions in the Spring/beginning of Summer Term. These tasks will be levelled. An end-of-key stage level is then awarded.

Marking and Grading of Work

Pupils’ work is marked by the class teacher. Tasks in exercise books and folders are annotated and where necessary errors highlighted.
