Assessment pattern

Year 10 Year 11
During the course, students complete 2 pieces of coursework. The pieces are graded. Students are also given an end-of-year exam in Media where appropriate. Students complete their textual analysis and production coursework in Year 11. The folders are assessed by the class teacher before being sent away for moderation. Students sit mock examinations at the end of the first term.

The coursework is marked by the teacher in line with WJEC marking guidelines. Each piece is marked out of 20.

The different assessment objectives are marked according to levels.
Level 1: 0 - 7
Level2: 8 - 11
Level3: 12 - 15
Level4: 16 - 20

Exam responses are marked according to the mark scheme for that particular paper.

Educational Visits

Where possible, students are offered educational visits to the theatre to see performances of their set texts. Visits to London, Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Swansea have been arranged in recent years.

Coursework requirements

One folder for English/Literature is completed during the course.

The controlled assessment is worth 60% of the final mark.
There will be 3 pieces of work from at least two different media:
Two textual investigations on two different media areas (one must be print-based) 20%
One media production consisting of research, planning, the production itself and an evaluation of the production 40%
