Assessment pattern

Students complete a folder in each year which satisfies the syllabus requirements. The folders are completed by the end of the second term. Students are given a mock exam in the second term in each year. There is a final exam set by the exam board in May/June. Marking and grading of work

Year 12 Year 13

The coursework is marked by the teacher in line with WJEC marking guidelines. Original writing is marked out of 20 while the commentary is marked out of 40.

Band 1 0-5/0-10
Band 2 6-10/ 11-20
Band 2 11-15/21-30
Band 4 16-20/31-40

Exam responses are marked according to the mark scheme for that particular paper.

The coursework is marked by the teacher in line with WJEC marking guidelines. The essay on the play texts is marked out of 40 while the texts produced for performance are each out of 15 with the commentary out of 10.

Educational Visits

Where possible, students are offered educational visits to the theatre to see performances of their set texts. Visits to Leeds, Oxford and Cardiff have been organised in recent years.
