Homework - Frequency

Year 10 Year 11
Homework is given when considered necessary for the following reasons:
RESEARCH: 10 minute internet question, in order to prepare a child for a forthcoming piece of work
CATCH UP: to write up work missed through absence
REVISION: for GCSE coursework and exams (should be started at least one month before the exams start)
LEARNING BY HEART: some pupils do this for coursework assignments
WATCHING TV: watching S4C to further understanding of Welsh

We try to finish as much coursework as possible in Year 10. We might have to finish pieces of coursework in the autumn term of year 11. It depends on the group.

Grades A*- E (higher tier) C-G (foundation tier)
Marking schemes are shared and discussed with the pupils before every task as part of the dept. assessment policy. This is proven to raise attainment.

How you can help your children

Revise language patterns and vocabulary
- Encourage them to watch Welsh TV programmes
- Learn Welsh yourself (courses available in school)
- Radio Wales website

Have regular contact with the school (not just parents’ evenings) and develop a positive and supportive relationship with teachers.
Do everything you can to find Welsh languages experiences for your child outside of school.
Use the library to find and borrow Welsh books.
Encourage your child to read in Welsh outside school.
