Syllabus title: Welsh 2nd Language GCSE Full Course (Short Course not offered)

Homework - Frequency

Year 10 Year 11
Homework is given when considered necessary for the following reasons:
RESEARCH: 10 minute internet question, in order to prepare a child for a forthcoming piece of work
CATCH UP: to write up work missed through absence
REVISION: for GCSE coursework and exams (should be started at least one month before the exams start)
LEARNING BY HEART: some pupils do this for coursework assignments
WATCHING TV: watching S4C to further understanding of Welsh

Coursework requirements (2009-2010)

We try to finish as much coursework as possible in Year 10.
2 pieces of oral coursework i) a role-play ii) a one-to-one presentation in conversation with their teacher
2 pieces of written coursework I) a conversation ii) a formal letter
2 pieces of reading coursework I) assessing two application letters for the same job ii) answering questions orally about an article or dialogue
Pupils are allowed dictionaries when doing reading/writing pieces and when preparing for the two oral pieces are allowed help before hand to prepare.
We might have to finish 1-2 pieces of coursework in the autumn term of year 11. It depends on the group.

Marking and Grading

All work marked according to the GCSE marking scheme.
Grades A*- E (higher tier) C-G (foundation tier)
Marking schemes are shared and discussed with the pupils before every task as part of the dept. assessment policy. This is proven to raise attainment.
