Curriculum
Art and Design is taught to every student in Key Stage Three (Years 7-9). Students have one lesson a week, and groups are taught through the medium of English or Welsh. More information
Students are given the opportunity to choose Art and Design as a subject at GCSE Level. Students have three lessons a week, and undertake the WJEC GCSE course. More information
Art and Design can also be chosen as an Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and an Advanced (A) Level course. Students receive 5 lessons in Year 12, and 6 lessons in Year 13. More information
In the future, we would like to offer a GCSE in Photography, and also Applied Art and Design.

Department Events and Activities

Events and Extra Curricular Activities
Over the last few years, we have undertaken a number of events or extra-curricular activities. These have included:
- Exhibitions of work by GCSE and AS / A Level students. These take place in school, or at our local Arts Centre – The Wyeside
- A trip to Paris for DT and Art students (2008), visiting galleries such as the Pompidou and the Musee d’Orsay
- Annual trips to London or more local galleries, e.g. Cardiff
- A local community regeneration project – the ‘Croeso’ project. Visiting artist running workshops, and students helping with designs
- Displays of work for school events such as Open Evenings
- Transition workshops for Year 5 and Year 6 students from the feeder primaries
- Visits from past students who have studied Art and Design at university, showing their work to students
- Entering national competitions such as 'Doodle4Google' with a Year 9 pupil recently being chosen as a regional finalist
Facilities
The Art and Design department is situated in the new building. There is one large and purpose built Art room, which is light and airy. This room also has a resource area, which contains our computer suite and Sixth Form work area. The other Art room is situated in the main building, and is shared with DT Textiles.
