Homework
Once a week, or where appropriate – when a topic has been covered and the students are able to understand the ideas they need to apply at home. The Homework is to show that students can remember and apply the ideas away from the classroom and it has to be a meaningful task that allows a student to progress.
Marking and grading of work
This is done in three ways ;
1. Using the agreed marking scheme, that is in the front of every students exercise book.
2. If a Task / Test has a distinct mark (e.g. 8/10 or 80%), a grade can be attached to this in the following way, 40%=E, 50%= D, 60%=C, 70%=B, 80%=A, 90%=A*
3. Any Assessments are ‘Levelled’ according to National Curriculum guidelines, a copy of this is given to every student when a new assessment begins, as a marking grid.
How can you help your child?
Please ask about the Homework, critically can they explain it to you? Do they reveal some understanding of the work carried out in class? This would be a great help.
Secondly, in the outline of the three years, there are assessments highlighted. Students always have Marking Grids, Explanations and Support sheets to help them understand the tasks. If they do not understand please contact us.
Also, researching the topic with books. The Internet can also help, especially in developing longer explanations that help students gain the higher levels in the assessments.
