
MusicMusic StaffHead of Music: Mrs Elin Non Ennis Music Teacher: Mr Andrew Mantle At Builth Wells High School, the focus is on ‘Music for All'! The department strives to cater for all levels of learners through the broad range of musical opportunities we provide for our pupils. We aim to expand students' knowledge of past and present cultures while learning to appreciate music in everyday life. Through the subject, we instil in all music students core values that will help them achieve success and develop their individual talents; motivation, teamwork, social skills, self discipline, good practice habits and a lifelong appreciation for the Arts. As a Department, we seek to be a vivid presence in the community, striving to promote all Music Department activities which celebrate the success of our students. The Department prides itself in its excellent track record of GCSE and A Level results. CurriculumMusic is taught to every pupil in Key Stage Three (years 7-9). Pupils receive one lesson a week. More information Pupils are given the opportunity to choose Music as an optional subject at GCSE level. Pupils receive 3 lessons a week. More information Music can also be studied as an Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Level Course. Students receive 4-6 lessons a week (depending on group size). More information As of September 2009 we are very pleased to offer Music Technology at Advanced Subsidiary level. This subject is taught on a Monday afternoon (1.30pm -4.30pm). More information All of the above subjects are taught through the medium of English and Welsh. Peripatetic Instrumental / Vocal LessonsPupils from all years can receive instrumental and vocal lessons. Highly qualified peripatetic instrumental and vocal teachers are in school weekly, and prepare pupils for Royal Schools of Music and Trinity School of Music exams (both Classical and Jazz) and also the contemporary Rock School exams. Pupils are charged £75 per term for an individual 20 minute lesson. (Piano and Guitar lessons are unfortunately not subsidised by the school). We offer the following lessons:
Extra Curricular ActivitiesThe department offers many extra curricular activities for our pupils. There is an opportunity for all abilities to stretch themselves in the following activities:
Performing OpportunitiesThe department is proud to offer many opportunities for our pupils to take part in public performances. Concerts are held in school and in the local community. Pupils are prepared for School, County and National competitions instrumentally and vocally. More information Music FacilitiesThe music department is situated in the new building. There are two teaching rooms and one practice room. All of the music rooms have Air Conditioning.
