The school has some instruments available for pupils to borrow (there is no charge for this service).
Apart from piano and guitar instrumental lessons are subsidised by the school and cost £75 per term for each pupil. This involves a 20 minute individual lesson. If interest is high in a particular instrument then pupils will share a lesson and the cost will be halved (£37.50 per term).
Guitar and piano lessons are not subsidised by the school. The costs are as follows:
• Guitar - £6.00 per pupil for a shared lesson of half an hour
• Piano – 20 or 30 minute individual lessons, £7.50 and £11 per lesson respectively.
If there are no vacant spaces for the pupils to receive instrumental / vocal lessons then they are put on a waiting list.
Pupils leave their timetabled lessons in order to have their instrumental tuition. This works on a rota basis and pupils will not miss the same lesson in succession. Registers of attendance at lessons are kept and checked on a weekly basis. Failure to attend regularly may result in a suspension of lessons until a letter from parents / carers guarantees an improvement.
Many pupils have fun and success making music, going on to take graded exams playing their chose instrument as well as following the Music GCSE, AS & A-level courses. If you would like to start learning an instrument or receive vocal lessons then please complete and return the slip provided here. (360KB pdf)
