Brecon and Radnor Samaritans Young Peoples Music Festival
Members of the Jazz Band recently took part in a Music Festival organised by the Brecon and Radnor Samaritans. The festival was held over the weekend of Friday 11th – Sunday 13th September. On the Friday and Saturday evenings there were young local bands performing. The festival was brought to a close on the Sunday evening by a performance from the school’s jazz band and a sing song lead by Builth Male Voice Choir at the Greyhound Hotel.

Musical Evening - June 2010

Barclays employee Laura Childs from Llandrindod Wells Branch took part in a fundraising event in June in aid of Builth Wells High School Music Department.  The Musical Evening raised £700 including £550 on the raffle which was organised and run by Laura.  The monies raised by Laura were matched £ for £ as part of the Barclays Community Investment Programme.

Laura said ‘at Barclays we strive to strengthen local communities in which we live and work by supporting a range of causes from local schools to centres for older people.  This is a fantastic example of Barclays’ staff fundraising with the local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real and lasting difference’.  At Barclays we’re really proud of our leasing community investment programme which added up to £54.9 million in 2009. Over 57,000 of our people were involved in fundraising or volunteering in their communities.

Pictured above is Mrs. Elin Non Ennis, Head of Music from Builth Wells High School gratefully receiving the cheque from Mrs Childs. The money raised from the evening will be spent on new music for the numerous bands and choir as well as building upon our Music Technology resources.  The Music Department would like to thank Mrs Childs and Barclays Bank for sponsoring this evening. Thanks also to all the pupils who took part and the audience for supporting the event.
