
Stock JudgingYear 11 pupil James Nixon has been having considerable success over the past year in Stock Judging competitions. In April 2009 James competed at the All Wales Finals in Anglesey. He was part of the Radnor Federation of YFC's overall winning team on the day. He judged in the U18 section in Beef Cattle, Butcher's Lambs, Butcher's Pigs and had to answer a questionnaire on Animal Health. In June 2009 James judged Lleyn Sheep and Charollais Cattle in U21 and U18 categories and gained second place. He then gained a second place in the U18 section of Welsh Cob Judging. This awarded him and his fellow team members the P R H Tantrum Perpetual Trophy for Stock Judging Achievements. In October 2009 James judged Beef Cattle, Butcher's Lambs, Butcher's Pigs and answered an Animal Health questionnaire and was the overall winner of the Junior Stockman of the Year award. This success took him on to judge Beef Carcasses at Bingley Hall Christmas Fatstock, Birmingham in November 2009 in the U18 section. At the 2009 Royal Welsh Winter Fair, he judged Lamb Carcasses on the Monday and Live Lambs on the Tuesday in the U18 section. He was awarded 4th place in Wales and has now won through to judge Cattle, Sheep and Pigs at the Welsh Finals in April 2010 in Carmarthen. Further Stockjudging success for JamesAfter having success in the Radnor YFC Stockjudging Day in October 2010, James was selected to be part of the team representing Radnor in the Wales Stockjudging at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. James was selected to judge Butchers Beef Cattle on Tuesday, 30th November, 2010 at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair and achieved 1st place after placing two rings of Beef Cattle and giving his reasons/observations to a judge for why he placed the cattle in a certain order of merit.
