National Youth Orchestra of Wales

Year 12 pupil Owen Jordan has been selected to play in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. This is an excellent achievement. The orchestra age range is 16 to 21 and mostly includes college members. Well done Owen.

Head Boy and Girl

BWHS 6th Form pupils voted recently for Head Boy and Head Girl. Matthew Ball and Laura Jones were elected with Darius Nash and Georgia Boss-Johnson as deputies. They are pictured here with Mrs. Shan Davies, Headteacher and Mrs Laura Lewis, Head of 6th Form.

'Doodle4Google' Competition

Art students from Builth Wells High School have entered the national competition 'Doodle4Google' for the last few years. This is a competition to design a logo for the Google website and the theme this year was 'My Hero'. Congratulations to Christian Lally in Year 10 for being chosen as a regional finalist from thousands of competitors. Well done Christian!

Beat 2009 - Sunday, 15th November 2009

Beat 2009 Drumming Event, 15th Nov 09 feat. Young Drummer Competition - at the Hubs, Hallam Union Sheffield

Congratulations to Builth Wells High School pupil Oliver (Ollie) Harding who was chosen to compete as one of 10 UK wide finalists in the prestigious Beat 2009 Drumming competition in Sheffield and was placed second against very strong competition.

Ollie has been drumming for over 5 years and has reached an extremely high level of professionalism. He plays with the school jazz band and orchestra and also participates in charity fund raising events within the school by astounding the whole school with freestyle drum solos.

Ollie has also made the Top Ten in the National Young Drummer of the Year finals which is to be held in Leamington Spa on Sunday, 24th January 2010. He has also recently been successful with his audition for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for Wales and will be involved in rehearsal work for a concert in the Summer of 2010.

He is pictured here with Mark Heaney who is a drummer for post punk legends Gang of Four. He has recorded and collaborated on countless sessions. Mark is a composer and producer and creates his own sound scapes using live drums and samples.
